What you need to know about Diabetes
Good morning. This is Dr. Joe Cincotta. Over the past couple of months we have heard a lot about diabetes. Much of this discussion has focused on medication safety – a matter important to us all. There is, however, another point that I think has not received the attention it deserves. Amid all the reports and articles is the recognition that the impact of diet, exercise, and weight loss equals and sometimes even exceeds the benefits of medication early in the management of Type 2 Diabetes. Diabetes is a chronic, progressive, and lifelong condition. Most patients will eventually require medication. However, medications need to be added to the foundation efforts of diet, exercise, and weight control as those measures start to be inadequate for good diabetes control. Proper nutrition, exercise, and weight control cost nothing and have no negative side effects. They are choices that one can make to improve health and help control diabetes. Thank you.
